You Are Not Alone: Finding Divine Support in Your Homeschool

Homeschooling can feel incredibly personal—and incredibly lonely. When you’re the one planning the lessons, reading the books, solving the math problems, and handling the meltdowns, it’s easy to start believing that the success of your homeschool rests entirely on your shoulders.

But what if it doesn’t?

What if, instead of striving harder, you could rest in the truth that you’re not homeschooling alone?

That’s exactly what we explored in this episode of The Feast Life. Together, we took a deep breath and stepped back into the wisdom of Charlotte Mason, who reminds us of one essential truth: we are infinitely supported. Even in the most ordinary school moments—yes, even during grammar lessons—the Divine Helper is with us.

The Real Teacher in the Room

Charlotte Mason taught that the Holy Spirit is the ultimate educator, imparting knowledge not just in sacred subjects, but across the entire curriculum. That includes math, science, literature, and yes—grammar.

But here’s the catch: our actions can either invite this divine cooperation or hinder it.

When we over-teach, over-schedule, or over-control, we may actually be resisting the very help we’re so desperate for. All our fear-driven striving can create an environment where the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit gets drowned out.

Instead of stuffing our children with facts, we’re invited to nourish them with ideas.

The Feast Is the Framework

Rather than trying to pour knowledge into our children like they’re empty buckets, Charlotte Mason reminds us to set a rich, thoughtful feast—and let them eat.

A feast of:

  • Living books full of noble ideas

  • Quiet moments of imagination and reflection

  • Firsthand experiences and discovery

  • Narration, where the child is trusted to express what they know

When we step back from the pressure to perform, we actually make room for something much more beautiful: a child who is engaged, curious, and growing.

The Gift of Margin

One of the most sobering insights from this episode came from a Parents’ Review article, which warned about what happens when children are constantly busy and under supervision. Even as homeschoolers, we can unintentionally replicate this: packing our days so tightly with activities, curriculum, and enrichment that our kids have no time to simply be.

Charlotte Mason insisted that imagination requires solitude and independence—two things sorely lacking in today’s fast-paced world.

Your child doesn’t just need more learning. They need time to digest what they’re already learning. They need space to think, wonder, create, and pray. And so do you.

You're Not the Fountain—You're the Friend

Perhaps one of the most freeing realizations of this episode is that you are not the source of all knowledge. You are not the fountainhead. You don’t have to know everything. You don’t have to lecture, quiz, or entertain. You simply need to guide, support, and trust.

You get to be your child’s guide, philosopher, and friend—not their drill sergeant or academic overlord.

That shift is everything.

Receiving Help Is Holy

So much of our resistance to support comes from the belief that we should be able to do it all. That asking for help makes us weak. That receiving support somehow diminishes our worth.

But here's the truth: receiving help is not weakness—it’s strength.

Whether it's divine help or earthly help, we are designed for interdependence. Support can come in many forms: a co-op, a good curriculum, a trusted friend, a church community, a podcast that speaks life into your weary soul.

But it starts with this question:
Am I willing to receive it?

You Are Already Supported

At the end of the episode, I invited listeners to reflect on where they’re already supported—in both external ways (like classes or community) and internal ones (like gifts, passions, and personality quirks that God has uniquely given you). That list is often longer than we realize.

So today, I encourage you to pause and ask:

  • What part of my homeschool have I been trying to control out of fear?

  • What would it look like to trust more and strive less?

  • How can I remind myself that I am infinitely supported?

Friend, you don’t have to carry this all by yourself.

You are not alone.
You never were.
And that changes everything.
