Faith Over Fear: A Homeschool Mom’s Back-to-School Reset
There’s something about the start of a new homeschool year that stirs up more than just excitement and fresh plans. It stirs up fear.
Even after years of experience, even after mapping out the perfect schedule, fear has a way of creeping in.
Maybe you’ve felt it, too?
The questions come like a flood:
Am I going to mess this up?
What if my kids fall behind?
What if I’m not enough for what this year requires?
If any of that resonates, you’re not alone.
In fact, this episode of The Feast Life podcast is pulled straight from a recent call inside our Feast Table Membership, where I sat down with a group of beautiful, faithful homeschool moms to talk about the fear we don’t always give voice to—but that deeply shapes the way we show up.
And here’s what I shared:
Fear doesn’t get the final word.
Homeschooling Is Holy Ground
We began the call with prayer, because the work we do—shaping minds and shepherding hearts—isn’t just academic. It’s sacred.
Charlotte Mason said that “Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.” That life begins not just with lesson plans, but with our mindset.
This is holy ground, mama.
And the fear that rises at the beginning of a new season? It’s not a sign you’re doing something wrong. It’s a sign you’re doing something meaningful.
A Practice to Ground You in Truth
During the call, I walked our members through a simple but transformational three-part journaling exercise. Here’s how you can do it too:
1. Name the Fear
Write down everything you're worried about—big or small. Don't censor it. Just let it out.
"I'm afraid my kids will hate homeschooling."
"I'm scared I won’t have time to do it all."
Let your brain off the hamster wheel and let your heart speak honestly.
2. Discredit the Fear
Ask yourself: Is this the ultimate truth?
Then write down what is more true.
“This is hard, but it’s not hopeless.”
“I’ve done hard things before. God will equip me again.”
Fear thrives in the dark. Truth brings light.
3. Write a New Story
Now imagine what it would look like if it worked.
What would success look like? What if this challenge became a blessing in disguise?
“This season could give us more time together.”
“Maybe this will build resilience and connection in ways I didn’t expect.”
You get to choose the story you want to live. Make it one that leads with faith.
Words to Speak Over Yourself
At the end of our call, we read these declarations out loud together—and I want to invite you to do the same:
- I am equipped and chosen to lead my children in this journey of learning.
- My presence and love are more powerful than any perfect lesson plan.
- I don’t need to have it all figured out. I just need to keep showing up.
- I release the fear of getting it wrong and trust the unfolding of our unique path.
Because mama, your homeschool doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
It’s allowed to be beautiful in its own way.
Let This Be the Year You Choose Faith Over Fear
If you're heading into this school year feeling unsure, I want you to know: you're not doing this alone.
The One who called you will equip you.
So as you pull out the books and plan your first week, pause to realign your heart. Your kids don’t need perfection. They need presence. They need love. They need you.
You were made for this moment.
And you’re rising to meet it in God’s strength.
With you on the journey,
Julie
